Participating in the CITY CYCLING event in Berlin has become a tradition at MES by now. Every year, a big part of our staff participates under the team name Muskeln Ersetzen Sprit, or Muscles Replace Fuel in English. So, in 2025, starting May 16th, our MES cyclists will make an effort to bike more and pollute less.

MES Is Participating in the Berlin CITY CYCLING Event 2025!
What Is the History Behind the CITY CYCLING?
It is a campaign organized by the Climate Alliance, a very important organization made up of 27 countries across Europe and the Amazon Basin that takes local action to help the global climate crisis. The City Ride started in Germany in 2008; nonetheless, since 2017, any city, municipality, rural district, or region around the world can register to participate.

How Does the CITY CYCLING Event Work?
First, every member needs to register for their corresponding municipality, town, or city. Afterwards, they just have to download the CITY CYCLING app to start tracking their routes. Pretty easy, right?
Finally, each participant has a total of 21 days to record the number of km they manage to cover. This activity tracking can take place between the 16th of May and the 5th of June.
What Lies Behind This Yearly Event?
The initiative aims to motivate even people around the world to choose cycling over other means of transport and contribute to sustainable mobility. In addition, the organization reaches out to local politicians to encourage them to improve or maintain the cycling infrastructure in their territory. The CITY CYCLING app's data is especially instrumental for this, as users are able to report potholes, confusing routing, etc.
Muskeln Ersetzen Sprit at Berlin CITY CYCLING 2025
At MES, we decided to create our own team to challenge each other to ride as many km as possible. That is how we came up with our amazing name: Muskeln Ersetzen Sprit.
In 2024, we reached 17 riders, cycled around 3.987 km, and managed to save up to 661,8 kg of CO₂! Moreover, we also had a winner: Marcel Feige, Software Engineer for MXAM, who managed to cover 1.001 km in 34 trips! He was closely followed by our Marketing Manager, Elena Bley (2nd place), and our MXAM Product Owner, Simon Rösel (3rd place).
This season, we will strive to reach the same target and, if possible, improve it!
